CRH/BSB Stress Biology and Biotechnology
Lecturers: Georgios Komis, Tomáš Takáč
Seminar: 3 hours/week
Credits: 4
Summer semester
Form of course completion: course credit
Plants and stress. Abiotic and biotic stress factors. Sensitivity, tolerance and resistance. Plants stress response. Plants defense responses against stress – strategies leading to the elimination of negative effects of stress factors. Acclimation and adaptation. Abiotic stress – temperature, drought stress, osmotic stress, hypoxia, anoxia, salinity, pH, toxic metals, air polution, xenobiotics. Biotic stress – herbivors, patogenic microorganisms (viruses, bacteria, fungi) alelopathy, parasitism. Possibble employment of biotechnological approaches forincreasing the stress resistance of plants. Seminars will run in the form of journal club – student will present selected papers followed by discussion.
