The aim of this course is to acquire basic skills in selected methods of molecular biology, which are currently being used in molecular taxonomy of plants. Introduction to principles of molecular taxonomy. Basic procedures for sampling and transport of samples from field to laboratory, methods of DNA isolation, amplification, separation and detection of PCR products. Basic techniques of molecular biology (PCR, survey of molecular markers with focuss on AFLP, microsatellites, sequencing), and flow cytometry (determination of ploidy and nuclear genome size). Advantages and disadvantages of these methods and examples of their use.
