The Faculty of Science has a lot of creative potential and it can be proud of its abundant profile of original scientific results, which push the limits of our findings, as well as of its multilateral international cooperation. Some of our research teams rank significantly on the international scale as well. According to the Methodology of the Research, Development, and Innovation Board, in 2011, the Faculty of Science ranked fifth among all the faculties and scientific institutions in the Czech Republic. According to a study conducted by the National Economic Institute in August 2012, our Faculty is the most efficient scientific worksite in the field of optics in the entire Czech Republic.

The Faculty is also successful in acquiring both local and international grants. Within the operational programme of Research and Development for Innovation, it acquired two significant projects and in 2009 started building two large new research centres: Centre of the Region Haná for Biotechnology and Agricultural Research, and the Regional Centre of Advanced Technology and Material. Relatively high demands are placed on the students.

In return, the Faculty offers a good study foundation, an individual approach, modern laboratories, the opportunity to participate actively in the resolving of research projects even at the Bachelor’s level of study, opportunities to travel abroad and participate in scientific-research internships, and, last but not least, a friendly environment that fosters versatile character development. Winners of prestigious awards, such as, for example, the Czech Student Research Award or the Scopus Young Researcher Award, are to be found amongst our students. There is a demand for graduates from the Faculty, not only on the part of local companies and state institutions but also of international worksites, where a number of our graduates move in order to “gain experience”.
