Leisure activities

Olomouc is famous for its beautiful parks where you can walk or just sit on a bench and listen to the birds singing. You can also visit the Botanical Garden with alpinum and rosarium or one of the greenhouses, containing marvellous collections of tropical plants and cacti.

The city itself has been changing its face recently thanks to a lot of new art galleries, fancy shops and cafés. Galleries are located mainly around the Horní náměstí (main square). The Museum of Arts presents a collection of Italian paintings of 14th to 18th centuries and short-term exhibitions of modern arts. It also organises lectures, seminars and film projections. The Olomouc Archdiocesan Museum, a unigue museum of its type in the Czech Lands, was established in 1998 as a part of the Museum of Art.

„S-klub“ and Depo #8 Rock Clubs will pull the attention of those, interested in rock (techno, ethnic, etc.) music, while the Theatre of Music prepares more sophisticated programmes about music, theatre performances or concerts. Jazz concerts are frequent in Tibet Jazz Club. Classical music is performed by the Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra in Reduta Concert Hall

If you are keen on sports, come to the University sports hall (Na Střelnici), to the swimming pool (Legionářská), tennis courts (17. listopadu, U Sportovní haly) or to one of several fitness centers all around the city (e.g. Omega – Legionářská 19, www.omegasport.cz). Aquapark Olomouc (Kafkova, www.aqua-olomouc.cz) has been opened just recently and it iś expected to become one of the greatest attraction for people in Olomouc and its surroundings.

Poděbrady recreation area provides natural bathing, camp grounds, caravan camping, restaurant and other facilities. You can get there by city buses.

The information about cultural and sports events in Olomouc can be found in Info or Kdy, kde, co. These magazines are available monthly in newsstands and bookstores.
